Purpose

The SD (Service Dog) Certification Program is designed to provide professional, cost effective evaluation to those teams that are currently left with no reliable options for testing and certification. We do not advocate programs that provide sight unseen certification for a fee. We believe that in-person testing should be the gold standard for evaluation and certification.

At the current time, we are only able to accept applicants from the United States. The FSDS is respectful of International boundaries and mindful that rules that govern certification may vary from one region to the next. We will be happy to consider applicants from other countries, providing that steps are taken in advance to have our evaluation and testing process formally recognized by the country that the applicant resides in. Testing and certification are only beneficial if they are recognized in the homeland of the team. If you reside outside of the United States and are seeking to become a part of our network, please check first with your local authorities to determine what steps, if any, must first be taken. The FSDS is happy to provide letters of support or assist you in any way that we can. Proof that the testing and certification process will be recognized in your country must be submitted along with your application for acceptance into the evaluator network.

Already an Evaluator?

Effective September 5, 2011

Dear Evaluators,

We recently received word that Assistance Dogs International (ADI) is looking at the possible generation of standards for outreach certification. Their Accreditation Committee will meet in October and a discussion of this is on their agenda. The FSDS has made a decision to therefore extend your evaluator status until January 1st, 2012 at no additional cost to you. This will allow us all to determine what effects, if any, this may have on our current program guidelines. As soon as we receive word, we will be back in touch with you.
